Mr. Magramane receives the Executive Director of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI).

Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr Lounès Magramane received on Tuesday, at the ministry's headquarters, the director general of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), Mr Sang-hyup Kim, who is on a two-day working visit to Algeria (20-21 January 2026).

During this meeting, the two parties discussed the opportunities and prospects for cooperation between Algeria and the GGGI in the fields of environment, sustainable development, and energy transition, following Algeria’s accession to the Institute in August 2025, in accordance with the high directives of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

The Secretary-General emphasized that Algeria’s membership in this organization aligns with the country’s ambitious national strategy aimed at building international and regional partnerships to address the pressing issue of climate change and to enhance the environmental sustainability of the national economy.

The Institute’s Director General praised the positive momentum in cooperative relations since Algeria joined the international institution, noting that it has led to the development of a roadmap that includes the implementation of tangible projects designed to advance technical cooperation and serve national needs across various relevant sectors.

The two parties also discussed arrangements for the upcoming visit of the institute's chairman of the Board and the General Assembly, former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, following the invitation extended to him by Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs Mr Ahmed Attaf.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Secretary-General chaired the signing ceremony of the headquarters agreement, which will enable the GGGI to proceed with the practical steps to open an office in Algeria.

The GGGI is an international, multilateral initiative currently chaired by former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, which aims to strengthen the technical capacities of member states in various fields related to green growth and sustainability.
